Ashland Pinewood Derby this weekend
Ashland Cub Scout Pack 179 will hold its annual Pinewood Derby competition Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Mapleton Lions building. Registration begins at noon sharp and racing will start at 1 p.m. It is very important that the scouts are on time for registration, so please make every effort to be there as close to noon as you can. Family members other than parents are welcomed to attend, as well, and the pack will be selling snack items throughout the afternoon.
Seventeen Ashland scouts are scheduled to race. They received their car blocks at their December pack meeting and were to design and build their derby car with the guidance of an adult. Design and construction guidelines were given to each scout to follow so that their cars meet the Council Pinewood Derby Rules, which promote uniformity, good sportsmanship, fun and fairness. The top three cars – along with an alternate – will advance to the Northstar District Race to be held at the Aroostook Centre Mall Saturday, March 7.
The scouts are extremely excited to see how their car creations will fare. Wish them all good luck!
