AVALANCHE – Heavy snow, combined with recent warmer temperatures and a metal roof, resulted in considerable damage at this Washburn home. While many property owners are opting to re-roof homes and businesses with metal instead of shingles, making it easier for snow to slide off and creating less need for removal of the white stuff, it’s important to take into consideration where that snow will land when it begins sliding, especially if a porch or carport is directly in its path, as was the case at this residence.
No estimate was available on damages, but repairs could prove to be costly, since a vehicle appears buried under the collapsed carport. Town officials are in the process of trying to contact the homeowners, who were reportedly away when the incident occurred.
