PRESQUE ISLE – On Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, Alpha Psi State, Maine of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held its annual fall workshop in Presque Isle. Delta Kappa Gamma is a society of women educators.
The workshop was hosted by the ladies of Delta Chapter based in the central Aroostook area. Friday evening’s activities were held at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center. The workshop sessions, general session meeting and the fall workshop luncheon took place at the University of Maine at Presque Isle Campus Center Saturday. The fall workshop was attended by women teachers from every corner of the state.
Friday night featured registration, an executive board meeting and supper. Saturday began with specialized sessions for officers and committee members. Other workshops offered were about the Maine Winter Sports Center, Seniors Achieving Greater Education, Bags of Books for Babies, Welcome Bags, Education in Russia and the Maine Educational Opportunity Center.
Following the general business session, the luncheon was held. New Alpha Psi State President Susan Stinchfield Plaisted, and First Vice President Katie Yando were installed by Dawn MacPherson-Allen and Sarah Chipman assisted by Rena Kearney. The head table was introduced by Elaine Hendrickson, president of the Delta Chapter. After a delicious lunch, Mabel Desmond introduced guest speaker Brig. Gen. Brent M. Boyles, who spoke about the role of the National Guard in protecting the United States and answered questions after his talk.
The workshop closed with remarks from the new state president and the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma Song.
