Wonderful adoptions

To the editor:
Because of a gift from a kind benefactor, Madawaska Lake Homeless Cats has been able to issue 15 spay/neuter certificates this past month to low-income and/or elderly family members. This need was met for 14 cats and one large dog. Once all these vouchers have been redeemed and paid, we will see how many more vouchers can be issued. Stopping a litter from being conceived is the best way to prevent animal neglect, abuse and abandonment.     Cynthia Harvey of Caribou handcrafted a beautiful kitty queen-size quilt in shades of lavender and donated it to help the spay/neuter program expenses. The top is covered with little kittens in baskets and in playful moods. Each square is hand-stitched with a heart. This is a fantastic quilt. Tickets are $1 each or seven for $5. The quilt is on display and tickets available at Beaulieu’s Garage on South Main St., in Caribou until March 10. Or you can receive tickets from myself at 896-5650 or by calling Cynthia Harvey. Draw date is May 1, 2009.
I am happy to report that we have had several wonderful adoptions. Among the kitties placed in loving homes are Ginger, Sonny and Cher (together), Blackjack and Judy. Of the five young feral kittens; Ginger is adopted now, Blaze, Trudy and Becky are doing very well being socialized in foster homes and Billy is now finally able to be loose for some playtime with his feline friends. He loves it.
Goldie, an 8-month-old spayed, yellow tiger-striped female, is a happy, gentle sweetie who commands laughter as you watch her play games. She would do very well in a home with other pets and kids.
The next pet food delivery for Caribou is planned for March 19, 2009 at about 1 p.m. This program is helping people and their pets get through this rough winter. The friends of Madawaska Lake Homeless Cats and the Presque Isle Animal Hospital Caribou Clinic encourages anyone who is able help to purchase a few supplies and drop them off to the Herschel Street Clinic on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon. The food goes fast and people are very grateful for this help.
Please keep your cats inside and watch your dogs closely when they are outside. It has been a bitter winter and already we had to amputate one cat’s tail due to injury and frostbite (Roxanne) as well as a new stray (Bradley) losing half of his right ear.
The wonderful people at 88 Bennett Drive Redemption are still collecting returnable bottles and cans to help with medical expenses. The bottle collection is very important to us. Please help when you are able.
We provide each pet with Leukemia testing, all age-appropriate shots, cleared of any parasites and spayed/neutered before adoption. We do socialization activities to assess the pet’s personality development for the most suitable adoption. Madawaska Lake Homeless Cats does not charge any fee for adoption.
Thank you for your continued faith and support in us. It means a lot and affirms our belief that these dear animals deserve quality health care and a promise of a loving home in their future.
