X-C Ski Frolic
The Himie Towle Memorial is pleased to announce the X-C Ski Frolic on Sunday, March 8. Sponsored by Cary Medical Center and Nordic Heritage Sport Club, the event will take place at the Nordic Heritage Center. Cost to register is $20 family, $10 adult and $5 youth, and includes a homemade soup lunch. The first 100 to register receive a Frolic long sleeve t-shirt. The mass-start event is freestyle cross-country (classic track also available), and snowshoe enthusiasts are also welcome to tour the snowshoe trails. 1st and 2nd place awards will be handed out in 22 categories with a special award for the overall female and male winners in 7.5K Main Event. Aroostook Cup points will be awarded for the 7.5K event (14 and older) with random prize drawings for everyone who registers.
Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the events start at 1 p.m. with the 7 and under 200 meter race. 14 and older (7.5 Kilometer) concludes the races at 1:30 p.m. with lunch held at the Lodge. The Awards Ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. following all events.
10th Mountain Ski Club to Host Women’s Ski Day
On March 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the 10th Mountain Ski Club will be offering a ski day just for women. The day will be a great opportunity for local women to try something new or improve their technique in a fun, supportive atmosphere. The morning activities will include cross-country ski instruction for all skiers, particularly those new to skiing.
A light lunch will be served and then followed by ski and snowshoe tours. Participants can finish the day off relaxing by the fire or enjoying the sauna. A $15 fee for the day includes ski and snowshoe equipment if you need it, lunch and all activities. Massages will be offered throughout the day for an additional fee. All proceeds from this event will support community programming at the 10th Mountain Ski Center. This event is a great way for women to support programs in their community while doing something healthy and fun for themselves. Bring your ski or snowshoe equipment, and bathing suit and towel for the sauna. The 10th Mountain Center in Fort Kent located on the Paradis Circle Road located 1.6 miles south of the traffic light at the center of town on Route 11.

Ten Star all-star basketball camp
Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star all-star summer basketball camp. The camp is by invitation only. Boys and girls ages 10-19 are eligible to apply. Past participants include: Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill and Antawn Jamison. Players from 50 states and 11 foreign countries attended the 2008 camp. College basketball scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American team.
Camp locations include: Ithaca, NY; Phoenix, AZ; Babson Park, FL; Gainesville, GA; Champaign, IL; Glassboro, NJ; Marietta, OH; Lebanon, TN; Commerce, TX; and Blacksburg, VA. Presque Isle pool hours
The Presque Isle indoor pool will be closed Feb. 25 – March 2 due to furnace problems. Lessons will be extended until April 4. Call the indoor pool for more information at 764-2564.
UMPI to hold umpire clinic
The Northern Maine Board of Approved Baseball Umpires will begin holding clinics for new members beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Interested individuals should meet in the North Classroom in Weiden Hall on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus at 6 p.m. that first night.
Cost of the clinic is $40, which includes the rule book. Other class dates will be March 3, 10, 18, 24, 30, and April 7. Those passing the board test and mechanics session will be eligible to begin working this spring at the middle school level.
