Fort Fairfield Ski team competes at States
The Fort Fairfield High School ski team competed in the Maine State Class C Championships on Feb. 19 – 21. The team traveled to  Black Mountain in Rumford.
The Fort girls’ team finished in third place in the Nordic Competition behind Fort Kent and Freeport, and ahead of teams from Winthrop, Waynflete, Telstar, and Dirigo.
Melissa McKenney placed 7th in the girls’ classical race on Saturday, followed by Kylie Plourde in 16th and Kaitlyn Kinsey in 22nd place.  Fort Fairfield’s coach Paul Lamoreau was encouraged by this year’s results. “Considering the small size of our team this year, this was a great accomplishment for the girls.”
Nathan McLaughlin, Fort Fairfield’s lone competitor in the boys’ state ski meet, came in 31st in the classical race.              McLaughlin, who competes in both cross country and downhill events, came in 34th in freestyle, 27th in giant slalom, and 22nd in slalom, which gave him 5th place overall out of 12 in the boys’ skimeister competition.
“This was Nathan’s first year at the state competition and I’m very pleased with his results,” said coach Lamoreau.
