Kole Buzzeo wins local spelling bee with ‘souvenir’

    The local Maine Spelling Bee for Houlton Southside and Houlton Junior High School was held on February 5.

SPELLING CHAMP — Kole Buzzeo, right, a seventh grade student at Houlton Jr. High captured the local spelling bee competition to advance to the county competition in Presque Isle on March 4. Cody Bagwell, a sixth grade student at Southside was the runner-up. The winning word was ‘souvenir’.
    Capturing the championship was seventh grader, Kole Buzzeo, while Cody Bagwell, a sixth grade student was the runner-up. The winning word was ‘souvenir’.
    Buzzeo will compete Wednesday, March 4 at Presque Isle Middle School at the County Bee. The winner will then proceed to the state championship at Trinity Catholic School in Lewiston on March 28. The Scripps National Bee will be held in Washington, D.C., May 26 through the 28.

    Judges for the event were, Ms. Betty Fraser and Ms. Robin Crone. The end-of-the bee assistant was Mr. Chernesky.
