Ms. UMPI Pageant to benefit seniors

Pageant fund-raiser
    PRESQUE ISLE – The 2009 “Ms. UMPI Pageant” combines an evening of laughter and competition as male UMPI students vie for the title of Ms. UMPI. As part of this fund-raising event for the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s 2009 Senior Class, each contestant will be required to perform an opening act, model sports and evening wear, and demonstrate a special talent in the quest for the crown. The pageant will be held Friday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in Wieden Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 each or in advance from Laurie Boucher at 768-9512 or Keith Madore at 768-9568.

UMPI closes Felini exhibit
    PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host a closing reception for the Renee Felini exhibition “Creating Community” on Friday, March 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Reed Fine Art Gallery. The exhibition, which has been on display since Feb. 2, is a gathering of objects and creations by Felini representing her family’s sense of “personal community” since their arrival in northern Maine. Felini is the University’s newest fine art professor. Gallery hours at the Reed Gallery are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information about the reception, please call 768-9611.

NASA Astronaut to speak
    PRESQUE ISLE – A NASA astronaut and Space Shuttle pilot and commander, retired USAF Colonel Pam Melroy, will present a lecture at the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. Melroy’s presentation “Human Spaceflight – Shuttle, International Space Station and Beyond” is part of the University’s Distinguished Lecturer Series.
