The third Lenten breakfast was held Sunday, March 15, and was once again under the direction of Candy and Don McKellar. Sam was the bacon cooker, Phil Faulkner did the toast and Don was the chef at the stove. Serving was Marion Hoar, who had done it now for several years during Lent, and Verna Boone and Candy were assistants in the kitchen. Menu included French toast, chocolate muffins, eggs, bacon, coffee, orange juice, jelly for the toast and syrup for the French toast.
Our Catholic friends are once again enjoying all this good food and come faithfully every Sunday and fill up their table. Have been getting a few snowmobilers but am afraid the good sledding is about over. Nevertheless, all are very welcome, snowmobilers or not, and everyone looks forward to the fellowship during the meal.
Walt and Gwen O’Roak arrived in town to spend a few days at their home here and to visit with friends and relatives in the area. Walt says that one of these days they will be back, at least for the summer.
I am happy to report that two days ago had a female cardinal on top of my large feeder and then a couple of days later, saw her again. They are hard to spot unless you really keep your eyes on the feeders a lot. They don’t visit long so it’s hard to get a picture of them. Also have a couple of red squirrels that show up now and then. Had to shoo the black cat away from the cedar tree near the feeders as he was stalking those blue jays. And, have not seen any more of the deer – put out some feed and they never returned to eat it. Blue jays ate all the bread I had put out for them along with the feed so at least, they were full. Maybe when the snow pack goes down the deer will come out again. My dooryard has lost a lot of the ice but still have great mounds of snow both in front and behind my house.
