Sen. Troy Jackson recently welcomed Vanessa Lavoie and Chantal Rioux, students from the Van Buren Elementary School, to the Statehouse in Augusta. The two grade-eight students were visiting the Capitol as part of the Maine Women’s Lobby Annual Girl’s Day.
The students were visiting the Capitol as part of the Maine Women’s Lobby annual Girl’s Day, an event designed to introduce young women to the inner workings of the Maine State House.
“It’s wonderful to see students interested and engaged in the legislative process,” said Sen. Jackson.
“They traveled quite a ways to get a first-hand look at how their government works and I sincerely wish more people from the Valley would have a similar opportunity. These girls are bright, articulate and a pleasure to talk with — they certainly did an excellent job representing our area.”
