Mars Hill – Anna S. Orser, 88, died at home March 17, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born February 10, 1921, in Mars Hill, the daughter of Elbridge (Lee) and Jessie (Ford) Shaw.
Anna grew up in Mars Hill and was a graduate of ACI. She owned and operated the Lobster Pot for 26 years. She was famous for her fried clams and potato salad. Anna helped start the Mars Hill and Blaine Recreation Association in 1964 and served until 1989. She was well known as an avid local sports fan and enjoyed watching the Red Sox. She was a great supporter of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren involved in sports. Anna was most fond of her family that survive her: two daughters, Gayle McGaughy and a son-in-law David Thomas of Eugene, OR and Jackie Lundeen and her husband Garth of Mars Hill; four grandchildren, Trent Lundeen and his wife Kelly, Stephanie McLaughlin and her husband Ward of Mars Hill, Lanny McGaughy and his wife Trina of Philomath, OR and Charis McGaughy and her husband Jeff Croissant of Eugene, OR; nine great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Brittany and Courtney Lundeen, Taylor and Logan McLaughlin all of Mars Hill, Maya and Jolie Croissant of Eugene, OR, Megan and Jake McGaughy of Philomath, OR; four sisters-in-law, Marie Pulcifur, Phyllis Shaw, Vera Shaw and Barbara Shaw and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband James Orser, she was predeceased by a special granddaughter Melanie Lundeen in 1978; five brothers, Hardin, Bob, Pat, Blackie and Vaughn Shaw; two sisters, Lena Kilpatrick and Sadie Crichton.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main Street, Mars Hill with the Rev. Daniel Blevins officiating. Relatives and friends called from 1 p.m. until time of service. A spring interment will take place at Kings Grove Cemetery in Mars Hill.
