Cronkite, Carmilla R., 88, Presque Isle; in Presque Isle, March 20, 2009. There will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle. Spring interment will take place at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Arrangements in the care of Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.

 

    PRESQUE ISLE – Camilla R. Cronkite, 88, wife of Lawrence S. Cronkite, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, March 20, 2009 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility. She was born September 24, 1920 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of William and Sophie (Caron) LeVasseur.Image She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1940 and was married to Lawrence S. Cronkite on June 16, 1947. She had been a resident of Presque Isle for sixty-one years, where she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle.
    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cronkite was predeceased by four brothers, Dewey, Saul, Edgar and Paul LeVasseur; five sisters, Pauline Stone, Norma McKenney, Dorothy Beaulieu, Rena Shaw and Viola LeVasseur. She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Lawrence S. Cronkite of Presque Isle; five sons, Sam Cronkite and his wife Carol of St. Augustine, FL, Paul Cronkite of Memphis, TN, John Cronkite and his wife Lucian of Ponte Vedra, FL, Thomas Cronkite and his wife Suzanne of Hanover, NH, Patrick Cronkite and his wife Barbara of Palm Bay, FL; six grandchildren, Joanna Houde of Exeter, NH, Sammy Cronkite of Knoxville, MD, Susan Cronkite of Watertown, MA, Matthew and Megan Cronkite, both of Hanover, NH, Elizabeth Mannix of Palm Bay, FL; four great grandchildren, Ben, Nathan, Nicholas and Emily; one sister-in-law, Muriel “Pat” LeVasseur of Presque Isle; numerous nieces and nephews.
    In keeping with Camilla’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Presque Isle with the Rev. Raymond Morency celebrant. Spring interment will take place at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Cronkite to the Hematology / Oncology Clinic, c/o the Aroostook Cancer Care Office, 140 Academy Street, Presque Isle, 04769. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Mass. Arrangements are in the care of the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
