Davis named co-player of the year

    PRESQUE ISLE – The 2008-2009 Sunrise Conference Scholar Athlete Awards are out, and UMPI Owls are popping up all over the place. Receiving the award for women’s cross country were Hannah Smith and Michelle Phillips and, in men’s cross country, Emerson Wright and Aaron Schmersal. In women’s soccer, recipients were Erin Pelletier and Katherine Moody and, in men’s soccer, Trevor Hews and Chad Parker. Women’s volleyball handed a scholar athlete award to Megan Korhonen, who also won an award for women’s basketball along with Chelsea Boudreau. In Men’s basketball, Brian Korhonen took the only award for UMPI and Erin Pelletier was recognized for softball. Don Charette and Tyler Delaney were recognized in baseball.
    For the 2008-2009 Sunrise Conference women’s basketball awards, Erica Davis made all-conference first team, and M. Korhonen made second team. Davis also made second team all-state for the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, and was named co-player of the year for the All-Independent Women’s Basketball team. This season, Davis has led the Lady Owls in points, rebounds, steals and blocks and set the single-game scoring record at UMPI with 49 points. Davis made first team for the All-Independent team and teammate M. Korhonen received an honorable mention.      Freshman Ben Rosser was selected as the rookie of the year for the All-Independent men’s team.
