It was a busy at Hodgdon High School a few weeks ago, when the students at the school cleaned out their cupboards and scrambled around the area in search of non-perishable food items.
Each year, students take on the challenge of collecting the most non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries. This year, students chose to donate to both the St. Mary’s Food Pantry and the Ludlow Food Pantry.

It is tradition that the class with the most food items receives the most Color Wars Points during the friendly competition, along with ‘Spirit Week,’ held annually, the week before February vacation.
This is the fifth year that the Jobs For Maine’s Graduates program of Hodgdon has sponsored such an event, and the third year in a row that the Class of 2009 won the competition, bringing in the most food items for the cause. The students brought in a total of 1,501 items.
Senior class president, Cody Hand said, “I am happy to help families in need.”
The same sentiments were expressed by junior class president, Emmaly Jurson. “I am proud of Hodgdon’s annual involvement,” she said.
The Jobs For Maine’s Graduates program, as well as the students at Hodgdon High School appreciates the generosity of the community. Many people will benefit from these acts of kindness.
Hodgdon student, Jetta Dame said that she too was satisfied with the participation from her peers.
Indeed, it is area students, and their efforts, that make an impact on a community.
