HOULTON — Rotary President Fred Grant said the bingo night in St. Anthony’s Hall was a “huge success” last Wednesday in raising money to sponsor two exchange students from Spain who will stay with host families in Houlton. Grant also expressed gratitude to the sponsors and the community who brought the grand total to $3,000.

ROTARY’S BINGO NIGHT HELPS MANY STUDENTS — The student-run concession in the kitchen included: Father Dave Raymond, Jamie Ryan, Julie Codrey, Erik Ryan, Jordan Codrey, Kim Levesque, Chelsea Sloat, Amanda Ryan, Patti Sloat and Courtney Putnam. In front are Cruz Cruz and Victoria Codrey.
One student will stay with Houlton High School’s Tyler Delano and his family while the other student will be hosted by Esther Elmore of the Greater Houlton Christian Academy and her family. “This great exchange program gets our students thinking internationally,” said a very enthusiastic Grant. The exchange students will be here in the early summer for about one month. In addition to exploring life in the Houlton area, they will travel to points of interest like Mount Katahdin, Bar Harbor and Boston.
To accommodate bingo players, Rotarians asked for volunteers to run the food concession. St. Mary’s Senior High Youth Ministry stepped in and proceeds from their food sale will go to refurbish the baptismal area with new plants and shrubs.
