Concord General Mutual Insurance Company recently completed the last of its four fuel lottery drawings for their homeowner clients in Maine and Vermont. As a result of this lottery more than $38,000 was awarded to Aroostook County residents to assist them with purchasing fuel this heating season.

According to Gallagher Insurance Agency President Brian Sipe, 386 individual checks for $100 each have been distributed through Aroostook County Insurance Agencies representing the Concord Group. “This program has really been a win-win situation for both the company and our clients. The idea behind the lottery was to encourage homeowners to avoid unsafe heating methods such as space heaters by providing them with heating assistance. For our clients, it not only encouraged safe heating practices but provided many of them with heating assistance during a very difficult economic time.”
Sipe also stated the Concord Group distributed a total of $500,000 to its homeowner clients in Maine and Vermont, with four drawings being held between December and March. As a result of its efforts to assist the residents of Maine with high heating cost, Concord was recently recognized by Gov. John E. Baldacci and Insurance Superintendent Mila Kofman.
Baldacci noted “It’s important to acknowledge leadership of businesses in Maine that are seeking to address heating concerns, especially during this time of economic uncertainty. We are pleased to add the Concord Group to the list of companies responding to the needs of our neighbors.”
