Fort Fairfield & Caribou – Mary Grace Duncan, 95, wife of the late Cecil C. Duncan, passed away, Saturday evening, March 7, 2009, at a Van Buren nursing facility, after a brief illness. She was born August 19, 1913, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of William R. and Sadie E. (Saunders) Conant. Mary was educated in the Fort Fairfield, Easton and Mars Hill school systems and was married to Cecil C. Duncan on October 24, 1928. Mary greatly enjoyed working on the farm with her husband and was also a dedicated homemaker. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was a resident of Caribou for many years where she attended the Solid Rock Worship Center.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Duncan was predeceased by her husband Cecil on March 13, 1971; one son, William S. Duncan; one daughter, Mary Lynn Perkins; one grandson, James E. Perkins; five brothers, William R., Lewis E., Philip W., Robert B. and Warren M. Conant. She is survived by three sisters, Maxine Morgan and her husband John of Portland, Barbara Dionne and Lois Webb, both of Fort Fairfield; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly remembered by her caregiver, Linda Dickinson of Caribou, who loved Mary as a grandmother.
Friends called Thursday, March 12, 2009, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield where a funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Churchill officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
