FORT FAIRFIELD & CARIBOU – Robert L. Campbell, 72, husband of Mary M. (Albert) Campbell, passed away Thursday evening, March 26, 2009, at his Fort Fairfield residence, after an extended illness. He was born March 15, 1937 in Caribou, the son of John W.R. and Elizabeth F. (McGlinn) Campbell. He was a graduate of the Caribou High School, Class of 1955 and was married to Mary M. Albert on February 6, 1956. Robert was self-employed as a potato farmer in the Caribou area from 1960 to 1978, and owned and operated the Viking Sewing Center in Caribou with his wife Mary. They later owned and operated Campbell’s Value Mart in Easton for ten years. Robert was a communicant of the St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, was a honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council Number 1753, Fort Fairfield and was also a member of the Fort Fairfield Rotary Club.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Campbell was predeceased by three brothers, Aloisious, Charles and Roland Campbell; three sisters, Joan and Susan Campbell, Elizabeth “Sis” Matson. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Mary M. Campbell of Fort Fairfield; five sons, Roger Campbell of New York State, David Campbell and his wife Sherrill of Caribou, Gary Campbell and his wife Lisa of Grand Isle, Michael Campbell and his wife Mary of New Hampshire, James Campbell and his wife Toni of Presque Isle; eight daughters, Sharon Perreault and her husband Terry of Caribou, Patricia Troike and her husband Wayne of Fort Fairfield, Barbara Turner and her husband Stuart of Caribou, Susan Campbell of Connecticut, Roberta Lasater and her husband David of Georgia, Joan Bernard and her husband Sean, Janet Giberson and her husband Mark, Kimberly Senal and her husband Kevin, all of Fort Fairfield; one brother-in-law, Samuel Matson of Newport, New Hampshire; thirty-four grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friend called Sunday, March 29, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service was conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, March 30, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant. Spring interment will take place at the Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Council Number 1753, 260 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Campbell to the St. Denis Memorial Fund, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, 04742. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
