The Hornets met up with the Warriors of Southern Aroostook Monday night and walked away with a 19-9 win as Henry Milligan’s three-run homer helped lift Ashland to its eighth win. Carl Nemer singled twice with an RBI to help rally in nine runs at the top of the sixth. The Lady Hornets fell to the Lady Warriors 15-3 in a five-inning game. SAHS pulled ahead early, scoring six runs in the first inning. Ashland scored once in the second and again in the fifth.
The Hornets notched another regular season win on Friday with a 11-2 victory over the Owls at Madawaska.
Jeremy Tarr started on the mound for Ashland and contributed a home run and single with two RBIs. Tony Baker’s two-run homer, two singles and three RBIs added to a team total of 18 hits and Lucas Hafford added another two-run homer. Jake Paradis and Jordan Beaulieu each hit three singles.
In five innings, the Ashland Hornets defeated the Washburn Beavers 20-1. Ashland only allowed the Beavers two hits and Washburn’s only run came at the top of the fifth.
While squelching any offensive attempts from Washburn, Baker contributed offensive strength for Ashland with an RBI single and a grand slam at the bottom of the fourth. Teammate Milligan also homered in two runs and doubled and singled twice with four RBIs. Ashland’s final home run went to Nemer, who crossed home three times during the Thursday afternoon game.
Washburn’s only run came off an RBI single by Trevor Pendexter, though Kyle McLaughlin also singled.
Though the rain limited the game to five innings, the Lady Hornets still defeated the Lady Beavers 19-9 on May 14. Miranda Donovan took the win and contributed a two-run single to start Ashland off on a ten-run journey I the fourth inning, pulling the Hornets away from a previous 9-8 lead over Washburn. Anna Paradis added three singles and four RBIs for Ashland and, for Washburn, Rachel Palmer had the team’s only hit with a single and third inning RBI.
The Lady Eagles stayed ahead of the Lady Hornets in a May 13 afternoon game to clinch a 9-6 win over Ashland. Starting things off in the first inning was Limestone’s Amanda Allen with a two-run single.
Allen added another single before the end of the game and Stacy Bernier contributed two singles and two RBIs. For Ashland, Whitney Donovan doubled, singled and hit two runners home and Crystal Cook had two singles with an RBI. Jasmine Cote took the win.
Ashland baseball took a 14-4 win over Limestone in a high school baseball game May 13. The Hornets scored every inning but the fourth in a five inning victory. Nemer homered and singled twice, scoring three runs and sending three runs home for Ashland. Jake Paradis had a home run of his own and scored twice with two RBIs.
Continuing offensive strength for Ashland, Lucas Hafford doubled and singled with three RBIs. For the Eagles, Sam Davidson singled twice and Ty Tracy had the team’s only home run.
Ashland’s softball team took a 15-2 victory over Van Buren May 12 as Suzie Poulin only allowed three hits for Van Buren.
The Lady Hornets started off the game with three runs, and added their final six runs in the sixth inning to decide the game early. Crystal Cook led Ashland with three singles and a double, crossing home three times. Whitney Donovan also doubled twice and Anna Paradis singled, doubled and contributed an RBI.
With the latest heal point standings released May 12, the Lady Hornets are seeded 14 out of 18 teams in Class D and, with their latest loss to Southern Aroostook, Ashland softball’s regular season record is now 4-5.
