Hodgdon High School 2009 honor parts

    Principal Clark O. Rafford of Hodgdon High School has announced the honor parts for the class of 2009 as follows: valedictorian, Molly Marie McGuire; salutatorian, Taylor Rae Hovey; 1st honor essayist, Matthew Anthony Raccuglia; 2nd honor essayist, Dayna Elizabeth Tidd; and 3rd honor essayist, Brianna Jeane Hanington.
Image    McGuire, daughter of Gary and Lisa McGuire of Linneus, has been an active member of her graduating class. She is a current member of the National Society, a past officer of the student council and has been a three-year member of the cheerleading squad.
    Academic honors for her include highest honors throughout her high school career. Additionally, she has received both the Women in Engineering Award and the FLAME (Foreign Language Association of Maine) Award. She has been chosen by the faculty for both the student of the month awards and the Golden Rule Award. She is the class of 2009 Maine Principal’s Award winner. She is currently employed at the Shamrock Café.
    McGuire will be attending the University of Maine at Orono in the fall of 2009, majoring in biology, leading to a career in pre-dental.
Image     Hovey, daughter of Billy and Laurene Hovey of Hodgdon, has been active in a variety of academic and extracurricular activities at Hodgdon High School. She is a current member and past vice-president of the National Honor Society. She has been a two-year member of the board of Houlton-Hodgdon Dollars for Scholars, a class officer for a year, a member of the Envirothon Team for all four years; she has played both varsity soccer and varsity softball for all four years, varsity basketball for three years and varsity golf for one year. Additionally, she has been a student council member for two years and has been chosen by the faculty for student of the month three years.
    Academic honors include highest honors throughout her high school career. She was the recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa award her junior year and received the highest math SAT score in her class of 2009. She has received numerous certificates of excellence awards for individual classes throughout the last four years.
    Outside of high school, she has been a member of the Houlton Twirlers for 10 years and the Houlton School of Dance for eight years.
    Hovey will be attending Husson University in the fall of 2009, majoring in the chemistry and pre-pharmacy program.
Image    Raccuglia, son of Anthony Raccuglia of Cary Plantation and the late Denise Forte of New York, is Hodgdon High School’s first honor essayist.
    He has received highest honors throughout his high school career and has been the recipient of both the Golden Rule and Student of the Month awards. Raccuglia is passionate about meteorology and will begin his career doing his post secondary education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle in the fall of 2009.

Image     Tidd, daughter of Graden and Anita Tidd of Hodgdon, has been active in a variety of academic and extracurricular activities at Hodgdon High School.
    She has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years. She is a three-year Jobs for Maine’s Graduates officer. Additionally, she has been both class president her freshman year and a two-year member and current president of the student council. She was chosen by the Houlton Rotary Club to represent Houlton as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student her sophomore year. Tidd has excelled both in the academic world as well as the sports arena. She is a four-year varsity soccer and softball player, taking a captain’s role in each, and played one year each in both basketball and volleyball. She has been chosen by the faculty at Hodgdon High School as “Student of the Month” four times during her high school career and additionally, has received numerous certificates of excellence. She takes pride in numerous church and youth group events.
    Academic honors include highest honors throughout her high school career; she was the recipient of the University of Rochester Award for Social Sciences. Tidd is currently employed at Gardiner Health Care Facility.
    She will be attending Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia in the fall, where she has been accepted into the pre-med program.
Image    Hanington, daughter of Wilfred and Carrie Hanington of Bancroft, is Hodgdon High School’s third honor essayist.
    Hanington has excelled in both academics and extracurricular activities during her entire high school career and was the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Award. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years, treasurer of her class for two years and the vice-president for one. Additionally, she is an active member of Jobs for Maine Graduates, where she has held an office for three years and is currently the president of the association.
    She was the class of 2009’s University of Rochester Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award. She has received local academic achievement awards in many of her high school classes. Hanington played a variety of high school sports including soccer, volleyball, softball and cheering. Her most engaging athletic activity has been her involvement with equestrian opportunities. She has been an active member of 4-H for eight years, while holding an office for six, currently she is president. She has been on the National Judging Team, Quiz Bowl Team, Hippology Team and was chosen to represent Maine at the 4-H National Conference, 4-H National Congress and Citizenship Washington Focus. She has been on the Eastern States Equestrian team for five years and has competed in Springfield, Mass. for four, where she has received numerous sportsmanship awards. She is currently employed at Dows Market.
    Hanington will be attending the University of Maine at Orono in the fall of 2009, where she will major in animal science leading to a career in veterinary medicine.
