This year, the Mapleton United Methodist Women chose to help build a health clinic in Uganda, Africa as a mission project. On May 23, the women hosted a bean supper to raise funds for the project.
Janice (Garland) Wood presented a program that has been dear to her heart. Janice, a registered nurse, has volunteered for four years in Uganda helping educate people with health problems, delivering babies, and delivering hope to the forgotten, reaching out with God’s love. Janice’s dream is to help the Ugandan people build a clinic. If anyone is interested in donating to this project, please send donations to: Clinic Donations c/o LCAG, P.O. Box 220, Damariscotta, Maine 04543.
Birthday wishes this week go out to Lori Bard, Peter Goheen, Greg Michaud, Brent Boyles, Bernard Ayotte Jr., Jason Giggie, Aaron Buzza, Jaylee Fox, Joan Garland, Isaac Potter, Chase Carter Guerrette, Maxx Langille and Kelsey Rae Gilson.

The Boy Scout Troop 170 is accepting donations of bottles and cans, which will help raise money to attend summer camp. Please drop off your returnables at the Parsons Street Redemption Center and let the employee know they are for Mapleton Boy Scout Troop 170. You can also call Scoutmaster Peter Starr at 764-8189 or 551-5196 to schedule a pickup.
The troop also invites any young men between the ages of 11 and 18 who might enjoy camping, hiking, swimming, and many outdoor activities to come visit them. This week we will be meeting at the Lion’s Hall Thursday at 6:30 p.m., so come see what it’s all about. If you have any questions, please contact Peter Starr.
The Ladies Extension will be enjoying a garden tour at Edged in Stone located in Caribou Monday, June 8 at 6 p.m. If you would like to attend this tour, please contact Extension member Liz Brewer at 764-3427.
The next Mapleton Daze Committee meeting will be Wednesday, June 10 at 6 p.m. at the Pizza House. If you enjoy this annual festival and can donate some time to see that it continues, please consider attending this meeting!
Any and all who are interested in participating in the annual Mapleton Daze parade are asked to pre-register by contacting Grenda Stephenson at 764-0452. The parade is scheduled for Saturday, June 27. A change from previous years, the Mapleton Daze Committee has decided not to award trophies this year. Thank you for registering prior to the Saturday morning parade!
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society would like to thank all the generous individuals that purchased pies during the Mother’s Day sale at Kmart, as well as candy bars during the winter sale. Both fund-raisers were very successful and the community’s support is greatly appreciated!
The Society has voted to offer a couple’s lifetime membership for $150. If two people from the same family would like to join, this option would save $50, rather than purchasing one lifetime membership for $100.
The Grange Hall is available for rent May 1-Nov. 1. Please contact any member if you are interested in renting the hall for your event. The Society meets one night a month from February through November and welcomes new members. Please consider helping the Society preserve a piece of local history.
The United Methodist Church luncheon will be held Friday, June 5 at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
The Mapleton United Baptist Church will recognize graduates of middle school, high school, and college/university at the Sunday, June 7, 10:45 a.m. worship service. Parents, relatives and friends are invited to attend. The service will also include our regular monthly observance of the Lord’s Supper.
A couple of errors were made reporting Haystack Historical Society activities for 2008 in the Mapleton Town Report. The military display mannequin features Pete McPherson in his navy uniform not Terry as printed in the report.
Our regular monthly meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month March through November not the third Monday as printed. We apologize for the reporting errors. The next regular meeting of the Haystack Historical Society will be held June 22 at 7 p.m. at the museum. All members are urged to attend and guests are welcome. Don’t forget our homemade pie and ice cream sale during Mapleton Daze Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The museum will be open all day. We have a great selection of pictures of schools in the Mapleton area for your viewing pleasure.
The Mapleton Class of 1949 will be holding its 60th class reunion Thursday, June 25 at 5 p.m. at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center. All classmates and guests are invited to attend and encouraged to bring photos and other memorabilia to share. Those in attendance will be ordering dinner from the restaurant’s menu. For more information, please contact Arnold Carter at 207-873-1334 or Catherine (Smith) Wallace at 207-745-8680.
