More than 130 boys and girls from 12 towns met on the Caribou High School track to vie for the chance to travel to the state finals of the Hershey Track and Field national program.
Some of the winners at the state meet will have an opportunity to advance to the national meet in Hershey, Pa. in August.
Youngsters placing first in their event at the state meet will be pooled with those from other states and provinces in their region, which includes Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
At least five athletes will represent the region at the national competition.
The top three finishers from all the districts in Maine converged on Cameron Stadium in Bangor on July 7 to vie for the top spot in their respective events.
