PRESQUE ISLE — A collision between an ARTS (Aroostook Regional Transportation Association) bus and a sedan August 13 sent two people to the hospital.
The Presque Isle Police Department received a call reporting an accident on Carmichael St. at approximately 1:18 p.m. Thursday.
“When we arrived, witnesses reported seeing the car cut in front of the bus in an attempt to enter a driveway,” said Officer Lynn Hartley, who handled the investigation for the Presque Isle Police Department.
According to Hartley, a 2005 Ford Focus driven by Andreanna Munson, 22, of Presque Isle, was southbound when she attempted to turn, cutting off the ARTS bus, which was traveling north.
“The ARTS bus was driven by Steven Jones, 52, of Presque Isle,” said Hartley.
Both Munsen and her passenger, identified as Daniel Sparks, 36, of Presque Isle, were wearing seatbelts.
“Both were belted in but the airbags didn’t go off. Both were taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center for minor injuries. Both complained of pain,” said Hartley.
The Presque Isle Fire Department’s first responders and firefighters also assisted at the scene. Firefighters had to use hydraulic equipment to extricate Sparks from the car, because the bus struck the passenger side of the vehicle, making it impossible to open the door.
Hartley said no one on the bus was injured.
“There were five passengers and the bus driver onboard the bus but none of them were injured,” she said.
No charges were pending at presstime.
