Stitham, Charles “Dooley”, August 4, 2009.
Charles “Dooley” Stitham passed away August 4, 2009, at the age of 79 years. Dooley was born in Mars Hill, Maine, July 30, 1930, the son of Charles A. Stitham and Barbara O’Brien Stitham.
His dad worked until he was past 90 years old, and his mother lived in her own home until her passing at 101 1/2 years old. Dooley attended school in Mars Hill and was an accomplished musician. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Canada. While serving in the Army in California, he met and married Dorothy, his wife for 51 years. Dooley was a pharmaceutical rep for 35 years. He made yearly trips back to Mars Hill and spent much time with his parents and friends. He was famous for his Christmas Tree house, for which he worked several weeks each year constructing and adding lights and motorized decorations. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Dr. Linus Stitham MD of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.
He is survived by his wife, Dorohty and three children, Teri Richey, Scott Stitham, and Lori Swift, and beloved grandchildren Caitlyn Tobin, Cade Swift, and Donovan Swift.
His son Scott took care of several boys for the state of California and Dooley was a father figure for these boys. Dooley is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Averill of Cape Cod, Mass., and Rita Gauvin of Hastings on Hudson, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass was held at St. Isabella’s Church in Terra Linda on August 10th at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requested monetary donations to Advokids.org which supports California foster children. Toby Adelman, formerly of Mars Hill, attended the funeral service.
