Children read 260 books in 12 weeks

    Veteran’s Memorial Library in Patten was the scene of a very successful reading contest  for 12 weeks over the summer. Children read more than 260 books in the contest sponsored by the Maine Community Foundation.
    Librarian Doris DeRespino announced the results. The winners are: Rebecca Jennings in the grade K-2 group; Ryder Stubbs in the grade 2-4 group; and, Shannon Shaw in the grade 5-6 group.
    Each of the winners will receive a $50 Savings Bond. And, all participants will receive a gift bag. DeRespino, who applied for a grant to fund the contest, asks all entrants to stop by the library, pick up their gift bags and keep reading.
