On August 1st, the Island Falls High School Class of 1953 celebrated 53 years as alumni at the home of Virgil and Doris Lynch on Pleasant Pond. A potluck luncheon was served and the afternoon was spent reminiscing and catching up on what was happening with their various families. In the evening, the class attended the alumni banquet which was held at the municipal building.
Classmates attending were Marion (Grant) Burton of Sacramento, Calif., Marilyn (Hartin ) Noyes of Island Falls, Carole (Clark) Starr of Warren, Carletta (Pettengill) Nevers of Hanover, N.H., Rebekah (Tingley) Stevens of Wilmington, N.C., Ed Campbell of Limerick, Ed McGraw of Mars Hill, Dick Pulkkinen of Millinocket, and Virgil Lynch, Gilbert Sirois and Richard Ryan, all of Island Falls. Guests attending both affairs were Doris Lynch, Regina Campbell, Barbara Pulkkinen, Nancy McGraw, Don Burton, Sonny Starr, Gary Nevers and Royce Smallwood.
Gary Webb, former resident of Island Falls, has recently spent two weeks at the Webb cottage at Pleasant Pond along with his wife, Andrea. While here they visited with relatives and friends in the area and also his mother, Gertrude, who now resides in Houlton.
Am enjoying eating the many cherry tomatoes from my one lone plant planted amongst my back flower garden. Also have had two ripe large tomatoes from the three plants in my regular garden. Have dug a few holes of potatoes and , apparently, will have a good crop there. The skunks have stopped digging up my back yard as I have found no more new holes recently, and I have discovered another stray cat residing in my barn along with the black one. Just happened so spy it one morning eating what was left of the black cat’s breakfast. Hopefully it wont stay long.
