Mother Nature shined brightly on the Mystic Acres Campground Saturday, Aug. 22 for the benefit barbeque and concert, despite the weatherman’s forecast of downpours and bad weather.
Organized by members of the Oxbow Congregational Church to assist two local families that have suffered personal setbacks, the day was filled with a lot of fun and laughter.
“All had a good time. We were very pleased with the outcome,” said Audrey Currier, one of the event planners. “The donations were very generous.”
Roughly 100 family members, friends and neighbors attended throughout the day filling their bellies, socializing and enjoying the background sounds of the many talented musical performers who so generously donated their time and talents for the families. The following people performed for the crowd: John Birmingham and Friends, the Oxbow Flats, Bill Leach, Wayne Estey, Joel and Shannon Deabay, Randy Michaud and Wendell Hudson. The 50/50 raffle sold over $200 worth of tickets and our local bakers (too many to list) donated a total of 25 pies for the pie auction with the top selling pie going for $50!
The Deabays would like to send out a special thank you to all who organized, participated in and donated their time to this event and to those who came out to support them.
“May God bless them. We appreciate every bit of it,” said Shannon Deabay.
The Haycocks echoed the sentiment.
Donations are still being accepted by the families and can be forwarded through the church in the families’ names at: 812 Oxbow Road, Oxbow Plantation, Maine 04764 or for a personal donation: The Deabays – 1256 Oxbow Road, Oxbow Plantation, Maine 04764.
