Sherman area Senior Citizens Club
The Sherman area Senior Citizens Club met on Sept. 2, for a potluck lunch and discussed plans for a food sale to be held at the town bandstand on Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where you may buy the well-talked about grilled hot dogs and delicious variety of home-baked goodies of all kinds.
The members of the club will be looking forward to a bus trip or van trip to Cole’s Museum in Bangor on Oct. 12, and we’ll eat lunch at Governor’s Restaurant in Orono. You should make your reservation with Annie Atkinson for this special outing. We shall each pay for his or her own lunch but the transportation will be paid for by the club, as well as the $4 fee for the tour of Cole’s Museum. Don’t miss this one! Winter is coming!
Present today were Fred and Annie Atkinson, Sandra Qualey, Donna Grass, Esther Greenier, Linniea Perry, Bonita Staples, Eva Perry and the Aroostook RSVP representative, Ginny Garrett.
We’ve missed seeing those who have been absent from our regular count and hope we’ll be back to that number as fall season progresses.

TOPS ME No. 233

By Lois Downing
Take Off Pounds Sensibly, Chapter 233, of Houlton, met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its Sept. 4 meeting. Nineteen ladies including four KOPS (take off pounds sensibly) were weighed. Janice Shaw was the loser of the week with Joyce Estey as runner-up.
Joyce called the meeting to order and we had roll call. Charlotte Marley, in charge of the “Losing to Bloom” was absent but we were instructed to keep our points in order for her return.
Charlotte was also responsible for making new name tags and everybody thought that was a good job. Donna Parent collected them for next week. Linda Cassidy was the winner of the skinny dish.
Joyce read a letter informing us of the September workshop in Van Buren next weekend. A financial monthly report was given by treasurer Janette Nelson.
Denise Kinney was the person in charge of the program and she gained four extra points for her efforts. The program was taken from the current TOPS magazine called “Best Diet from TOPS.” She also read a story called “I look in the mirror,” taken from the same magazine. Before Denise began her program she read rules from the “10” contest.
October 17 is the date for SRD being held at the Augusta Civic Center. It was not certain as to the number of TOPS 233 will attend.
The next meeting will be September 11, at the same location and Linda Bartlett will be the program speaker. We will be weighed, then pick up a breakfast, whatever what one wants to eat, and meet at the Gateway Crossing at the moose statue.
Barbara Troy led us in several minutes of exercises.
Weigh-in is at 8-8:45 every Friday. The meeting starts at 9 o’clock and usually ends an hour later.
For more information, you may call Betty Ivey at 532-9653.
