Winners listed for fishing derby

    The Island Falls Fish and Game Club held the Big Fun Fishing Derby on July 25 and 26 at the Island Falls Fish and Game Club.     The derby included Mattawamkeag Lake and Pleasant Pond, both in Island Falls. Prizes were awarded for the heaviest salmon, white perch, bass and pickerel.
    There was also a special drawing for four additional prizes for anyone who weighed-in a fish, but did not win the heaviest fish prize. Everyone present when prizes were awarded got a door prize.
    Heaviest fish winners were, Dan Noble (Kingman) with a 2.30 lb. salmon caught in Pleasant Pond; Jim Slauenwhite (Island Falls) with a 0.84 lb. white perch caught in Mattawamkeag Lake; Dale Hosford (Island Falls) with a 3.70 lb. bass caught on Pleasant Pond and Garth Townsend (Island Falls) with a 2.66 lb. pickerel caught on Mattawameag Lake.
    Hosford and Townsend were present and each was awarded $50 by the Island Falls Fish and Game Club President, Reneva Smith. Slauenwhite and Noble were not present, but their heaviest fish prize money was delivered to them after the awards ceremony.
    Special drawing winners: Carol Blood (Houlton) won a $50 gift card to Walmart that was donated by Walmart of Houlton; Lance Lindsey (Island Falls) won $20 cash provided by the Island Falls Fish and Game Club. Jesse Boulier (Crystal) won an electric smoker donated by Richardson’s Hardware of Patten. Joe Pokorny (Island Falls) won a set of stainless steel barbecue tools also donated by Richardson’s Hardware of Patten.
    There was a 50/50 raffle during the derby that was awarded to lucky Jason Conklin (Patten) who took home $37.
