OAKFIELD and ISLAND FALLS – Carl Grant, 76, died Sept. 3, 2009, in Bangor. He was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Veazie, the beloved son of Wallace and Cecilia (Houlton) Grant.
    Carl was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years and would have rather gone fishing than have gone to school. He graduated from Oakfield High School in 1950. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Panama, and he retired from the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad in 1985.
    He is survived by his wife, Florence (Brownlow) Grant, having just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary; three children, Wallace and his wife, Carol Grant, of Houlton, Nancy and her husband, Eddie Leathers, of Island Falls, and Caryn and her husband, Steve Emery, of Smyrna; and his grandson and his best buddy, Wesley Leathers.
    Friends called 1-3 p.m. Monday at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, with a time of remembrance at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carl's favorite charities, Houlton Humane Society or Life Flight of Maine, care of Bowers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 579, Houlton, ME 04730.
