    S. Hobart Chandler of 27 Ramsdell Road, Gray, Maine passed away September 5, 2009, at Maine Medical Center.
    He was born in Caribou, Maine on October 12, 1919, to Sidney Hobart and Harriet Jacobs Chandler. Chub grew up roaming northern Aroostook County, hunting, fishing and working on family farms. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1943 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. In June of 1944, he married Jacqueline Greenwood of Farmington, Maine.
    He worked for the York Corporation of York, PA for his entire career, starting with defense work as an application engineer before serving in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. After returning in 1946, he was involved in various engineering aspects of the manufacture of ice-making, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. After 38 years, he retired in 1982.
    Jac and Chub returned to Maine, where he enjoyed landscaping, gardening, wild-life watching, furniture making, home improvement projects, and breakfasts at Cole Farms.
    He is survived by Jacqueline, his wife of 65 years, daughter Deborah of New Gloucester, ME, son Douglas and his wife, Molly, and grand-daughters Tessa Chandler and Jessi Grimm of York, PA.
