Caribou salutes dedicated reporter

To the editor:
Caribou’s Sesquicentennial Celebration – Caribou’s 150th birthday was a smashing success! The Aroostook Republican staff kept everyone aware of the activities with their continuous reporting of stories and the wonderful pictures of people and events. Our heart felt thanks to Barbara Scott for her tireless effort in reporting all of the activities with stories and pictures. Because of your tireless efforts Caribou will long be remembered for a beautiful parade and all their colorful activities bringing together the people of Caribou!

Aroostook Republican reporter Barb Scott has certainly left her footprint on Caribou’s 150th birthday quite literally; almost as many people have commented on her thorough reporting as much as her famous bare-foot trek during the parade while dressed in the attire of an early 1900s paper boy. It’s Caribou’s 150th birthday — Barb Scott has been certain that everyone knew enough to be a part of it.

The celebration ball was beautiful. Everyone enjoyed the music of the Sentimental Journey band, the tables were decorated with their flower centerpieces, and the dancers loved being a part of Caribou’s 150th birthday party.
The Queens’ Tea was also a picture of beauty! The Queens from yesteryear looked so elegant with their gowns and tiaras.
The play depicting Caribou’s history was done with the superb acting by many of the locals, telling the story of its early years and the all the many changes (if we do say so)!
And then last weekend! The bands, the floats telling our stories of past and present! We all enjoyed the clowns (even our own); and the wagon used to travel from Boston to Caribou in 1959 had been well preserved, and looked great! Many people enjoyed the bands and our beautiful Queens, and there were so many well-wishers along the parade route.
The community picnic was enjoyed by the largest crowd Caribou’s ever seen! Entertainment was provided by the Nadeau Family Band, the Maine Dance Academy dancers, and the University of Maine Marching Band. The evening was topped off by fireworks seen from most everywhere in town, and they really did last a half hour! Such a time!
The entire sesquicentennial was beautifully done by our own local paper, the Aroostook Republican. Stories were so well written and the pictures were just excellent representations in time of our people! All of this was done in most part by our own tireless reporter Barbara Scott. We hope her feet are mostly recovered from the barefoot parade walk! What a good looking paper boy! Without her presence and interest in bringing out the best of Caribou in our local paper we’d never be able to retrieve the memories of Caribou’s 150th birthday. Well done Barbara! We’re so lucky to have you!
