LIMESTONE —The Limestone Selectpeople discussed town matter for nearly three hours on Sept. 2    First on the agenda under old business was the review of the budget committee by-laws; this past spring, the budget committee did not have enough members in attendance to reach a quorum in time for the annual town meeting. Because a quorum could not be obtained, the budget committee could not give their recommendations regarding town spending to the voters. It was addressed at the meeting that the voters might want to disband the budget committee; the majority of voters decided to keep the committee.
The Selectpeople discussed the situation with budget committee members in attendance, and decided that no change would be made.
After about 40 minutes of occasionally tense dialogue, the Selectpeople tabled the town vehicle maintenance bid request review until the next meeting, which is tonight at 6:30.
Though they were scheduled to award the bid for the loader tires for the public works department, the Selectpeople chose to reject all bids after Limestone Public Works Director Mike Cote stated that the tires some vendors submitted a bid for wouldn’t fit, adding that the tires he would like for the loader are Nokian heavy tyres with a loader grip. The bid on the tires will be awarded during the selectpeople meeting this evening.
While reviewing the rough draft on the comprehensive plan, the Selectpeople also discussed hiring David Wylie as a grant writer for the town; Wylie has an excellent record of writing grants for the Limestone Water and Sewer District.
The mill rate was set at 22 during the meeting, and board of appeals members nominated.
The next meeting of the Selectpeople will be tonight at 6:30 in the Limestone Municipal Building conference room.
