WASHBURN — A Washburn District Elementary School 6th-grader was in a Boston hospital over the weekend for treatment of a dog bite he received Friday evening. “Carter Doak was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital after being bitten by a dog in town the evening of Friday, Sept. 11. His parents spent the weekend there with him,” said Washburn Police Chief Doug Conroy. Conroy did not know, however, how the boy was transported to Boston.
Conroy said he spoke with the boy’s father, Greg Doak, on Monday. The father told the chief that surgery was required to repair damage to the boy’s arm that resulted from the bite and that a skin graft was also required. It was not indicated which arm was affected.
“The dog, owned by Leon and Angel Howe, has been quarantined at their Main St. home, as required by law in such cases,” said Conroy.
Conroy said details are sketchy and the case remains under investigation.
“I need to talk to the boy to get a better understanding of what occurred,” said Conroy.
The Doaks had indicated to Conroy that they thought they’d be returning home to Washburn possibly by Tuesday of this week, if doctors authorized their son’s release.
“Greg indicated his son may require therapy for the injured arm,” added Conroy.
According to an official at Boston Children’s Hospital, no one by that name was registered at the hospital as of Tuesday morning.
