Voisine named UMFK Dean of Students

    FORT KENT — UMFK Pres. Dr. Richard W. Cost recently announced that Scott A. Voisine has been named Dean of Students at the university. Under his new title, Dean Voisine will supervise and administer all aspects of the student affairs department at UMFK, as well as serve as the chief student affairs officer for the campus.      “Scott has been doing an excellent job essentially as Dean of Students here for quite some time. However, the title normally requires a master’s degree, so we have encouraged him to take that step. He is enrolled in a master’s program, and at this point the end is in sight. I am comfortable in making this move now,” said Dr. Cost.
    “In public, Scott has a style all his own, but at the same time he works extremely well with students in private situations where they need his help and support. Our enrollment of full- and part-time students is over 1,100 and at any time Scott routinely is working with a number of students experiencing personal crises, or potentially serious issues. He works with them effectively and in absolute confidentiality. He is part counselor, part psychologist, part policeman, part cheerleader, and part mentor,” the UMFK president continued. “I have the greatest faith in Scott’s ability to assist students and to oversee a strong student affairs program on this campus and on that bases, I am pleased to announce this title change.”
    Prior to his appointment as Dean of Students, Voisine served as director of student affairs since 2005. He also has served as a MELMAC grant coach for two regional schools under the MELMAC Education Foundation since 2003, and has been the director of student services since 1999.
    “I graduated from UMFK and I’ve been a staff member here for 15 years now,” said Voisine.  “Being the Dean of Students is really a wonderful job. Each day I get the opportunity to work with outstanding students and a team of amazing staff and faculty in a dynamic campus atmosphere. Who could ask for any better? ”
    Voisine earned a bachelor of science degree, magna cum laude and Honors Scholar, in education and English, with a minor in art, from UMFK. He also attained a K-8 teaching certificate from the state of Maine. He has been an adjunct faculty member at the Fort Kent campus since 1995, teaching art fundamentals, computer graphic arts, fine arts curriculum, and the first-year experience.
    From 1996 to 1999, Dean Voisine served as UMFK’s director of residential life. He was UMFK’s director of student activities from 1995-1996 and also served as the acting coordinator of public relations. Currently, Voisine is pursuing a masters of education degree offered through the University of Southern Maine, but taught at UMFK. He expects
to obtain his degree next spring.
