Easton Recreation Department offers fall classes

Gymnastics, yoga courses
    Gymnastics classes will be starting Oct. 14. Allison Wheeler will teach a five-week series of classes from Oct. 14 through Nov. 18. The cost is $25 for intermediate and advanced, $18 for beginners and $12.50 for each additional child from the same household. Classes will be held in the high school gym. To register, please e-mail eastonrec@myfairpoint.net.       Yoga class (for adults) will begin on Oct. 15 and end on Nov. 19. Class will meet every Thursday evening from 6:15-7:30 in the elementary school gym. The cost is $25 for six weeks of lessons. The instructor’s name is Allison Wheeler, from Bridgewater. Participants will need their own yoga mat for class. This class will consist of core muscle work, muscle strengthening and flexibility. There will be some breathing and relaxation time but it will not be the main focus. Please make childcare arrangements for your children. Registration will begin immediately at the Town Office.  
Food pantry
     Anyone wishing to donate some of their fruits and vegetables from their gardens to the Easton Food Pantry may do so. It would be greatly appreciated. For more information call Vaughn Martin at 488-6608.
Awanas
    The Easton Wesleyan Church has started up their Awanas program on Wednesday nights from 6-7:30 p.m. Everyone from ECP to grade 6 is welcome to come. On a typical night students learn verses, play games, have a Bible lesson, eat snacks and do special things. Every child is welcome to attend. Fund-raiser
     The Easton Little School House Committee is raising money to start the restoration of the schoolhouse on the Station Rd. We are looking for things that you no longer want/need but that someone else might treasure. We hope to be able to sell these items and begin the work on the school. We are asking for no clothes, TVs or computers. We are collecting donations now. Please call Heidi Thompson at 488-4991 as soon as possible to set up a time for dropping off your items. The sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Easton Elementary School cafeteria. Mark your calendars now to attend this sale. Thank you.
Vacationing
    Pastor Matthew Maxwell, his wife Suzanne, and their children, Liam, Brenna and Aidan, along with Leslie and Dan Ferris and their three children, Hannah, Cecilia and Lidia, Jennifer Moran and her two children Cecilia and Isabelle, have been vacationing in sunny Florida for a week.
     Debbie and Vance Smith, along with Jared Hafford, their son Chris, and their granddaughter Olivia, have been vacationing in Florida as well. They met up with Mark Smith and his wife Carole and their niece Molly Madsen in Florida. They had beautiful weather in the 90s every day. We went to Disney and did lots of swimming and relaxing. We came back to 20 degree weather. We all stayed in a condo which was tons of fun.

    On Wednesday, Sept. 30, Kert Richardson, Paul Beaton, Karsen Winger and Ellie Larrabee all have birthdays. Happy birthday to you all.
    On Thursday Oct. 1, Jeff Clark and Terri Condon have a birthday. If you see Jeff in his trooper car, honk and wish him a happy birthday.
    Sept. 2, Marion Donahue, Jayme Scanlin, Seth Lockhart, Matthew Cole and Derek Foster all turn a year older.
    Birthdays for Oct. 3 include Kayt Demerchant, Kylee Ann Carter, Kevin Marquis, Tyler Bradley and Amy Barnes. Have a nice birthday Tyler.
    On Oct. 4, Rhoda and Eddie Johnson will celebrate their anniversary. Also David Donnarummo, Siera Lawrence and Marcus Czosnek have birthdays. Have a nice day.
    On Oct. 5, the birthday people are Sheila Holmes, Elisabeth Dudley, Johnna Lovely, Rae Lamoreau and Pat Brown. Also happy anniversary to Matthew and Jessica Osgood.
Close Encounters of the 1975 Kind
     On Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. Atlantic), the extraordinary and “extraterrestrial” events at former Loring Air Force Base become the focal point for personal planetarium adventure. “Close Encounters of the 1975 Kind,” produced by the craft and care of students from the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in 2008, vigorously investigates the Loring UFO mystery. In addition, meet a local panel of expert witnesses for further insight into a night to remember. Weather permitting, gaze at the night sky with a brief but peppy star tour guided by your host, “Sunny Acres” Berz, featuring our 13.1 inch Dobsonian telescope. Rec calendar
    Wednesday, Sept. 30 — There will be a field trip to Hunter Brothers’ Farm in Florenceville. The bus will depart from the hall at 8 a.m. and return by 2 p.m. The cost is $12 (this includes lunch). This is a farm known for their “world famous” sweet corn. While there, we’ll be enjoying a hay ride, feeding the goats, having a hotdog/corn picnic and trying not to get lost in their corn maze. Also, new this year they have added a “field of fun.” Children must have a release form signed and have a passport or birth certificate to cross the border. All adults must have a passport to accompany us.  
    Thursday, Oct. 1 — Archery Camp from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Transportation leaves the hall at 10:10  a.m. and returns at 12:45 p.m. Pre-registration required. The cost is $10. Jewelry making with Barb York from 1-3 p.m. at the hall. The cost is $3; each participant will leave with a necklace. The 3rd- and 4th-grade soccer team will play Washburn at home at 4:30 p.m. Players should be at the field by 4:15 p.m.  
    Friday, Oct. 2 — Archery Camp from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Transportation leaves the hall at 10:10 a.m. and returns at 12:45 p.m. Swim lessons. The bus departs at 12:30 p.m. and will return at 2:20 p.m. Pre-registration required.  
    Saturday, Oct. 3 — Grade 5 and 6 soccer round robin in Caribou. Times to be announced.
    Monday, Oct. 5 — Swimming lessons at 1 p.m. at the PI Indoor Pool. The bus will leave the hall at 12:30 p.m. and return at 2:20 p.m. The 3rd- and 4th-grade soccer team will play in Mars Hill at 3 p.m. The team will carpool from the hall at 2:20 p.m.  
    Tuesday, Oct. 6 — Playgroup (for children kindergarten and younger) at the hall from 1-2:15 p.m. The 3rd- and 4th-grade soccer team will play Fort Fairfield at 4:30 p.m. Players should be at the field by 4:15 p.m. The 5th- and 6th-grade soccer team practice will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. on the girls’ soccer field.
