OLD TOWN — The Presque Isle girls had their strongest showing of the season Saturday, placing second at the 60th Old Town Sectional Invitational cross country meet. The Wildcats had five runners among the first 23 to cross the finish line on the 3.1-mile course, with Alecia Palmer third overall in 20:34, Elizabeth Wright ninth in 21:40, Jaylee Fox 13th in 22:06, Hallie Bartlett 19th in 22:30 and Jerica Fox 23rd in 22:57.
“The girls have been working hard and the middle of our pack is really staying close together,” said PI coach Lori Googins. “They are all progessing together and have all moved up.”
Presque Isle scored 47 points, which was 14 behind meet winner John Bapst and 11 ahead of third-place Caribou.
Old Town’s Dacie Manion continued her domination of the Eastern Maine running scene by placing first in 20:09, 21 seconds faster than runner-up Mary Carmack of John Bapst.
The PI boys also placed second in the team results, tallying 76 points in the meet. Chris Cawley and Matt Eager each made the top-10, with Cawley ninth in 18:08 and Eager 10th in 18:16.
Logan Thibeau (18:32) and Tyler Hotham (18:47) were 13th and 14th, respectively. Jon Rochester was 32nd in 20:19.
Caribou was the boys meet winner with 34 points. PI finished ahead of John Bapst, MDI, Orono, Hermon, Mattanwcook and the host Coyotes.
