Dogs and cats everywhere! Our shelter is full again with cats, kittens and dogs. Where are they all coming from? I just don’t know. What we are finding very sad is that kittens are being born at our shelter and growing into adults there. That part is very troubling. These kittens are very social, since we have wonderful staff and volunteers handling them daily, but still, the shelter is no place for a kitten to grow up. To help in our efforts to find these cats homes, we are having an “adopt one kitten (8 weeks-4 months) and get a second kitten free.” We are in hopes that with the reduced price, people will take advantage of this special offer and we can move kitties into loving responsible homes.
October is “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.” What can you do to help dogs find wonderful loving homes? How about posting on your Facebook or MySpace account that October is “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, save a life, adopt a dog!” to help us spread the word. (You can also add “Central Aroostook Humane Society – 764-3441). You can make a donation directly to the shelter. We are in need of cat litter, Purina Dog Chow, Special Kitty dry cat food in the blue bag, bleach, laundry detergent, paper towels, gift cards, or your time. We encourage dog walkers and cat cuddlers to visit us often. You can help by spreading the word, holding your own fund-raiser, raising awareness in your group of friends, or discuss with your children the importance of responsible pet ownership. We also accept donations toward spaying and neutering. Get creative! Every little bit helps.
The fall craft fair was a huge success for the Central Aroostook Humane Society. Each craft fair, The Forum allows us to set up in the lobby where we can greet people coming through the door. The generosity of the public is amazing. We visited with old friends and made new ones. If you saw a pet you were interested in on our bulletin board at the craft fair, please stop by the shelter for a visit. We have many wonderful animals to pick from and more coming in every day. It seems that the calls are endless and the list of pets needing loving homes is also endless. That is why we feel our job is so important. The weather is getting cold and they need a safe, warm place to stay. It all costs money, and that is why we appreciate so much every donation we receive.
If you are looking for a wonderful friend for life, please stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We are open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. You can call us at 764-3441 or visit us on line at www.centralaroostookhumanesociety.org.
Please have your pets spayed or neutered.
