Summaries of games played Sept. 14 and 16 in the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s youth soccer leagues are as follows: Premier League (Grades 3 and 4)
In the Metrostars-Rapids matchup, the Metrostars’ Ashley Matlock had another outstanding night on the field. Her team play and great athletic ability helped get the ball to Sierra Ouellette, Jarred Jones and Alec Cyr on the outside, to be played up the field and crossed into the middle. This was a great game played by all Metrostars players.
Rapids had their best game yet as they made some big improvements on spacing and positioning. The only goal was scored by Bailey Griffeth. Great defensive plays were made by Caleb Trombley, Olivia and Emily Austin and Willow Whitten.
It was a hard-fought battle for Team Galaxy against the Fire. The first three quarters were defensively sound. Both teams had their opportunities to score with breakaways and shots just going wide of the goal. Half way through the second half, Kassie Krul led the way for the Galaxy by putting in the first goal of the night. Matt Nadeau had a couple breakaway attempts that just missed. A tremendous effort defensively was led by Alex Ezzy and Dagan Savage. Holding their own and offering a couple lead passes were Sarae Greenier and Rachel Davis.
Hope Shea played solid midfield play for the Fire. Excellent defense on both sides led to the three periods of no scoring. Cameron Doody had several excellent saves in goal for team Fire.
The Galaxy took on the Revolution and it was a slow start to a great offensive game by the Galaxy. Dan Randolph had the first goal that helped spark the Galaxy’s blaze. Dagan Savage had the assist. The second half was all offense for Galaxy.
It was a tale of two halves for the Revolution. In the first half, Sebastian Marquis played well in goal with two saves and played well at defense. Gabby Marquis had two scoring opportunities and Katie Strid had one. In the second half, Kyra Thibeault and Katie Strid played well on defense. Evan Desmond and Zoe Gerakaris had two saves each in goal. Meagan Dube and Samantha Strid played well on offense with some good drives. Gabrielle Marquis covered the field well keeping the ball moving.
In an equally fought game between the Metrostars and the Fire, Camden Huck and Nic Sleeper were the Fire’s scorers. Great help on defense was provided by Sydney Thompson and Danielle Hanson. Ben Burgess helped with great midfield play setting up great offensive opportunities.
The Metrostars played well again as Noah Hixon controlled much of the midfield. Riley McNeal had some great passes and a few great runs on offense. Paige O’Bar played well on defense while Josh Cummings played a good goalie.
World League (Grades 5 and 6)
Donovan Savage scored a “hat trick” with three goals and Michael Hunter notched a goal and an assist for the Arsenal in a hard fought contest against Manchester United. Eden Howell turned in a well-played game and added an assist. Hunter Milliard, Danica Walker and Jensen Jones also had several nice scoring opportunities. Hannah McDonald, Taitem Lindsey and Nick Pelletier showed great hustle on defense.
Kyle Soetarte-Beaulier kept the ball on his foot very well, dribbling through some of Arsenal’s defenders to create some scoring opportunities for his team. Richard Newland and Austin Brown hooked up with some great passing on the offensive end of the field. Jenna Boucher and Charlie Bergin played excellent defense for Manchester United.
In a matchup between Liverpool and Chelsea, Liverpool’s offense worked hard to keep the ball on their offensive end but was unable to put one in until the third quarter. Mason Huck hammered one into the goal with the assist coming from Tre Caudill. Liverpool held on to its lead through the fourth quarter with Devon Martin scoring a final goal off a rebound with only five seconds remaining.
Chelsea played hard against Liverpool, but ended up scoreless in the match. Kaitlyn Nadeau and Erin Randall were outstanding defenders in the game, both showing extreme hustle going after the ball. Lindsay Rowland and Cole Jackson both had good games offensively. Rowland had some great passes to the front for scoring opportunities and Jackson made some strong shots on goal, but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Arsenal and Liverpool squared off, with Hunter Milliard scoring an unassisted goal early in the game and the Arsenal defense made it stand up. Jillian Flynn and Milliard combined goalkeeping duties for the shutout. Taitem Lindsey played a great game at midfield, while Paul Hanson, Donovan Savage and Michael Hunter hustled all over the field connecting on some very nice passes and moving the ball for the Arsenal.
Liverpool played very hard in the match up. Sarah Draper and Kara Madore showed great passing skills on the field. Heather LaMothe made some great runs to get open, while Tre Caudill hustled all over on the defensive end.
What a great back and forth game it was between Chelsea and Man U. Chelsea’s Tyler Dombroski scored the first goal of the game early in the first half. Manchester United came back with a Josiah Krul shot to tie it up. Chelsea fought hard and found the net again with Matt Caron’s goal. Austin Scott scored a third Chelsea goal but it wasn’t enough as Manchester United scored two more goals to tie the game up again. Kyle Soetarte-Beaulier and Krul both put the ball across the line again. Late in the game Dombroski scored the go-ahead goal but with time running down, Krul made a last second shot on goal that went to the back of the net to end the game in a tie.
