Heal Points reveal local teams in hunt

    The regular season comes to an end next week for boys and girls soccer teams and teams are busy jockeying for key playoff position. The postseason kicks off Oct. 23 and 24 for some regions, while others must wait until Oct. 28 for the playoffs to begin.     The final Maine Principals’ Association Heal Points will be released shortly after the last regular season games are completed, but preliminary indications reveal 12 of the area’s 16 soccer squads are in the playoff picture as of Tuesday morning.
    The following is a look at each region and possible playoff scenarios.

Boys soccer

    In Eastern Class B, Caribou (6-2-3, 63.8520) is fifth in the 18-team region. If the playoffs were to start today, Caribou would be the No. 5 seed and on the road at the No. 4 seed (currently Mount View of Thorndike, 10-2-1) on Oct. 28.The top nine teams make the playoffs in this region.
    In Eastern Class D, Limestone-MSSM (3-8-1, 25.0638) is 10th and in the playoff mix. On the outside looking in are Fort Fairfield (4-7, 14.0306) in 15th and Washburn (2-9-1, 13.3291) in 16th. The top 10 teams make the postseason.
    If the season ended today, Limestone-MSSM, as the No. 10 seed, would travel to the No. 7 seed (currently Machias, 8-3-1, 46.2765) for a preliminary playoff on Oct. 24.

Girls soccer

    In Eastern Class B,  Caribou (8-3-1, 61.6709) is sixth in the 18-team region. If the playoffs began today, Caribou, as the sixth seed, would travel to the No. 3 seed (currently Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, 10-2, 79.2857). The quarterfinal would be played on Oct. 27.
    In Eastern Class D, Limestone-MSSM (6-5-1, 34.0689) is fifth and Fort Fairfield (6-4-1, 30.7015) is seventh. Washburn (2-7-3, 19.7832) is 10th and is likely out of playoff contention. The top eight teams make the playoffs in this region
    If the playoffs began today, Ashland, as the No. 2 seed, would host the No. 7 seed (currently Fort Fairfield), while Easton, as the No. 4 seed, would host the No. 5 seed (currently Limestone-MSSM). The quarterfinal matchups will be held Oct. 28.
