Huskies stay close, fall short vs. Stangs

    CARIBOU — The Huskies of Central Aroostook fell 35-12 to the Valley Mustangs Saturday in an Aroostook Football League game that was closer than the final score indicated. The score was 15-12 early in the fourth quarter, but a blocked punt was returned by the Mustangs for a touchdown, and the rout was soon on.

    “After that [blocked punt] we just seemed to go flat,” Huskies coach Stu Wyckoff said.
    Individual highlights for the Huskies included receiving touchdowns by Cody Bryant of Limestone and Cody Robbins of Caribou on passes from Kyle Ledue, also of Caribou.
    Coach Wyckoff said the individual star of the game was freshman Scott DeLong of Presque Isle, who caught numerous passes on the day and kept several drives alive.
    The Huskies travel to Houlton on Saturday for the regular season finale at 5 p.m.and will then travel to Madawaska the following Saturday (Oct. 24) to play the Mustangs in the first round of the league’s single-elimination playoff.
    The Knights of Houlton (5-0) clinched the No. 1 seed in the three-team league, while the Mustangs (2-2) finished second and the Huskies (1-3) third.
    In other action on Saturday, the Knights traveled to Charleston to play a non-conference game against Guilford and won by a score of 70-20.
