LIMESTONE — The plot for scary movies frequently involve three key elements: nighttime, a cornfield and something spooky. This trifecta of terrifying thrills has been put together by Edgecomb Farms and the Limestone Recreation Department through the creation of the Haunted Corn Maze, open on Thursday, Oct. 29, Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Left, Bob Edgecomb of Edgecomb Farms and Jamie LaBreck, director of the Limestone Recreation Department, found that it takes all sorts of decorations to create a truly scary Haunted Maze.

While the Limestone Recreation Department traditionally has created a Haunted Woods at Trafton Lake, the prospect of a scarier venue was appealing to Jamie LaBreck, director of the Limestone Recreation Department.
“I think this will probably be 10 times scarier than the woods,” he said. “The woods were scary, but I’ve been in that maze when all you can hear is the wind moving through the corn; I’ll just say that the kids are going to get their money’s worth.”
Chris and Bob Edgecomb of Edgecomb Farms agreed and, while reluctant to give anything away, they assured that there’d be a couple of surprises lurking in the shadows waiting for anyone who enter the Haunted Maze.
“When we first thought about creating the Crop Circle Corn Maze, it was in the back of our minds to do a Haunted Corn Maze,” Chris said. After talking it over with LaBreck, Edgecomb Farms decided that the maze would take a walk on the scary side.
Unlike last year, those who may have found safety in numbers in the Haunted Woods won’t be so lucky this year; at last year’s haunted woods, an influx of customers had some groups walking the course through 10 people strong.
“If you have 10 people in a group, then the tenth person isn’t getting scared at all,” LaBreck said, adding that while the first five people may have been experiencing the fright of their life, the other five members of the group were wondering what was so scary. “Working with Edgecomb Farms this year, we can be sure to limit group sizes so that each group experiences the full effect of the maze.”
Admission is $6 a person, though Edgecomb Farms offers a large group discount price of $3 a person. The Maze is located north of downtown Limestone on the Van Buren Road. More information about the Haunted Maze can be obtained by calling Chris at 352-4656 or Diane at 540-2266.
