Caribou Firefighter Jim Mockler, 50, has served with the Caribou Fire Department for 17 years. A paid call member, Firefighter Jim earned the rank of Captain in Dec. 2002 and is also an EMT. Individuals choose to become firefighters for many different reasons. “I was watching one of the full-time firefighters working a fire hydrant during a big fire,” recalled Capt. Mockler, “He asked me to go get him something to drink — and I was hooked.”
With a full-time occupation as Funeral Director at Mockler Funeral Home in Caribou. Firefighter Jim enjoys traveling and is also very involved with the U.S. Public Health Service, region one. He and his wife Christine are the parents of two sons, Rob, 27 and Eric who is 25.
Captain Jim Mockler admits pizza is his favorite food and he would happily have it three times a day. As for cuisine that would be on the firefighter’s least favorite list — “Anything I can’t pronounce.” Along with his pizza, Firefighter Jim’s favorite music is Rock ‘n Roll.
“The city and our community rely on our department to provide well-trained personnel when an emergency arises,” stated Capt. Mockler. “It is sometimes difficult to find volunteers and I know there are a lot of people in our community who would enjoy being a member of the department,” he added, “we are always looking for dedicated people to become volunteers.”
