ImageImage    Caribou – Clifford G. Murphy, 83, died November 19, 2009 at Caribou. He was born in Perth Andover, N.B., Canada July 29, 1926, the son of the late Earl and Hazel (Rasmussen) Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a Sergeant serving with the 152nd Field Artillery in Caribou, retiring in 1985 as a master mechanic following over 30 years of full time duty with the guard. He married Rita Marie Martin.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Caribou are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry and Irene Murphy and John and Terry Murphy all of Fort Kent and Brian Murphy of Caribou, two daughters, Deborah Best of N. Providence, R.I., and Lynn Murphy of New Sweden; five grandchildren, Christopher and Kasie Best, Kimberly Monoz, Erica Bennett and Ben Murphy, six great-grandchildren, Nathan and Tyler Best, Sean and Hannah Munoz and Cole and Collin Bennett. Clifford was an avid outdoorsman, and took great pleasure in exploring the North Maine Woods with his children and grandchildren. His love of hunting and fishing extended outside the family. Clifford inspired many to develop and hone their own passion for the outdoors. He was always more than willing to share his love of canoeing and fishing the great rivers of the St. John and Allagash. As one of his special grandchildren recently wrote, "Grampy is now in a place where there is more than a 5 fish limit." Clifford Murphy was more than a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a friend!
Memorial services were  held 11 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2009, from the Chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. Contributions may be made to his wife, Rita Murphy, or donations may be made to the Central Aroostook Human Society. For an online registry please go to www.mocklerfuneralhome.com.
