WASHBURN — Four Washburn youths received their God and Church religious award in a ceremony on Nov. 1 at the Lidstone United Methodist Church. Friends and family gathered to watch Taylor Skinner, Tyler Jardine and Parker Thompson of Boy Scout troop 177 and Keagan Page of Troop 184 receive their awards from Washburn Scoutmaster Larry Harrison. The youth attended several classes with Pastors Dot Matson and Sue Brown at the Lidstone United Methodist Church and worked on their walk with God badge. During their classes, each Scout completed assignments, worked on a scrapbook and discussed their relationship with God. Along the way, each of the boys had to do different projects including volunteering their time to help people in need. The four Scouts decided to help out at the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Caribou, a project that brought the reality of today’s financial crisis up close to the boys. It was an experience they will carry with them for a long time.
For their final assignment, the four Scouts were given the responsibility of putting together and performing a Sunday night church service, with each having to lead a certain part of the program. The call to worship was led by Tyler Jardine and the invocation by Taylor Skinner. The two pastors also asked that each of the boys pick a miracle that Jesus performed and tell the congregation about that miracle.
The Scouts then led the congregation in the reading of the Apostles Creed followed by Scoutmaster Harrison awarding the certificates and patches for their completion of their God and Church award.
Those attending the ceremony viewed a video called “Casting Crowns,” followed by the dismissal with blessing performed by Keagan Page. A time of fellowship followed with a luncheon downstairs, provided by members of the Lidstone Church.
The local Scouts offered their thanks to Pastor Dot and Pastor Sue for all their time and effort they put into making this project a success. A thank you from the Scouts also went out to those who served as mentors — Heidi and Randy Thompson, Greg and Allison Page and Christine Skinner.
