Christmas wish for soldiers in Afghanistan
To the editor:
As the Christmas season races upon us, I would like to take this time to send a shout-out to all the troops who are away from family and friends. Many of us do not know the sacrifices that are made on our behalf, but being in a far off land is just the tip of the iceberg.
To the local soldiers at the 286th-CSSB in Afghanistan, Merry Christmas! We appreciate what you are doing on our behalf as well as for your country. Please know that you are thought of and prayed for by people you don’t even know, and will perhaps, never meet.
We look forward to your return next month after a year-long tour. We hope you find some little way to celebrate the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ, and to come home safely, soon.

Community cares about animals
To the editor:
I was truly touched by the kindness and generosity of our community. Despite the bitter cold, many people came out to support the humane society. Whether it was to come for the delicious chicken stew with homemade biscuits or the opportunity to have their pets get a picture with Santa, the turnout was a statement about how caring our community really is. Everyone expressed their compassion for our furry friends, and of what a great job all of the staff and volunteers are doing for the shelter.
I was fortunate enough to be able to lend a hand, and get to see how much love and support everyone has for these animals. On behalf of animal lovers everywhere, I want to thank all of you who support the shelter.
