Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Aroostook Health Center for their annual Christmas party. A wonderful meal was enjoyed by all. Members each contributed toys, wrapping paper or cash to be used by the CAHS group that collects and distributes gifts to area children. Members enjoyed a brisk game time playing BINGO!
The 2010 birthday calendars have arrived. For anyone wishing to purchase one, they are available at various locations in town. Cost is $6 per calendar. For any corrections, changes or additions to the calendar, contact Tomi Henderson at 429-9126 or at tomihen@yahoo.com.

The December meeting of the Mars Hill UMW was held in the church vestry at noon with 14 members and eight guests present. The table blessing was given by Pastor Sue Brown. A delicious buffet luncheon was served by the members.
President Elaine Bailey opened with a brief greeting. She welcomed all the guests and suggested that all introduce themselves. President Elaine then led all in the UMW Purpose Prayer and Pledge.
The secretary and treasurer’s reports were given and approved as read. President Elaine announced that the box of collected items for the military in Iraq is ready and Pastor Sue will see that it is sent to the right headquarters.
It was voted to contribute to the local fund-raising for Bobbi Jo Guerrette. When enough money is raised, Bobbi Jo will be able to have operations on both ears as she was born without hearing.
After the business meeting, President Elaine read a very heart-warming Christmas story about “The Littlest Angel.” Donna Ireland entertained by playing Christmas carols on her accordion while all enjoyed singing along.
All enjoyed the next exciting hour of exchanging Christmas gifts. Some were surprised as they “clutched” their given gifts only to have them taken away saying, “It’s Yankee Swap, remember!”
Guests attending were Jan Beals, Betty Mahan, Shirley Fletcher, Toni Campbell, Florence Cook, Rachel Brewer, Gladys Long and Donna Ireland. Members attending were Pastor Sue Brown, Elaine Bailey, Diane Ketchum, Frances Banks, Donna Brewer, Cindy Anderson, Winnie Anderson, Joan Boone, Joan Walsh, Judy Sawin-Staknke, Janice Footer, Judy Chase and Clara Hussey.
The Mars Hill American Legion Hall is offering karaoke on Friday nights from 7-10 p.m. They are taking a break over the holidays and will resume Friday, Jan. 8, 2010. Admission is $3 per person. With emcees Dennis and Celia Maurice, this is a fun thing to do on Fridays. Those under age 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
Singers are to bring their own songs. Prizes will be awarded each Friday for the best performers.
