Constitution should be our guide

To the editor:
Remember the expression, “act in haste, repent at your leisure?”
What we are watching in Washington is stunning. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are trying to ram the government takeover of our lives in the name of health care reform down our throats before anyone, including senators, knows what’s in the bill.
    Please ask yourselves:
• If this health care reform bill is so great why is Congress, the Senate, and certain government employees exempt from the plan? Our politicians preach equality yet for some strange reason, they don’t include themselves as being equal to us. Perhaps they’re just a little more equal than we are.
• If this bill is so wonderful why did certain Senators in certain states have to be bought off or bribed for their “yes” vote?
• Do you want government bureaucrats deciding how long you or your loved ones can live, what type of treatment you can or cannot have based perhaps on the productivity of your life, or would you prefer to keep those decisions between you, your doctor and your family.
Our soldiers sacrificed everything to protect our freedom. Why then would we be so willing to hand over our freedom and liberty to Washington politicians?
Please take the time to call and e-mail your senators and congresspeople and tell them to vote “no” on any government sponsored health care and urge your friends and relatives across the country to do the same.
In 2010 and in 2012 please remember which politicians supported the government takeover of our lives and vote them out of office regardless of their party affiliation. We have a wonderful Constitution in America. I pray that we begin to know our Constitution, that our schools begin to teach our children about our Constitution, that we begin to elect politicians who live the oath they take to defend and protect our Constitution, and that we hold these politicians accountable when they don’t follow the Constitution by voting them out of office!

Island Falls seniors appreciate effort

To the editor:
At the Christmas season, occasionally an extremely selfless act stands out above the norm. Such was so on Dec. 22, when Barney and Marcy Corsey, in conjunction with Craig Hartsgrove, presented an exceptional dinner for Seniors at Craig’s Main Course Restaurant at the Va-Jo-Wa golf course in Island Falls.
The ambiance of the setting was festive with one large corner done in animated Christmas bears and the like. Then we were treated to a buffet dinner which consisted of ham, turkey, mashed potato, stuffing, green beans, squash, rolls, cranberry sauce, beverages and a variety of cakes.
The event’s timetable was from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at no cost. Those of us who attended left feeling stuffed, and also grateful for having these exceptional people in our community.

Thanks to Aroostook Print Shop

To the editor:
I would like to express my thanks to Aroostook Print Shop in Houlton for recently publishing my book, “Alice, Frankenstein and Saturday Night Beans”.  They were excellent to work with, seemed to really care about my book and produced a quality product at a reasonable price.  Many people who have purchased the book have commented on how good the book looks and I agree.  They also did up some excellent posters for me for my book signing at Cary Library.
After getting rejections from state publishers, I was very discouraged, but am so pleased that I thought to go to them to have my book done and am pleased to support the local economy, too.  I have already referred them to friends who are considering having a book printed and would recommend this company to anyone having printing needs, whether it be a large project like mine, or something smaller.  Thank you, Dan and Rosalind, at Aroostook Print Shop.
