With only a couple weeks left in the regular season, boys basketball teams continue to fight it out for key playoff position. The final day for regular season games is Feb. 5, with the postseason beginning Feb. 9. As of Monday in Eastern Class B, Caribou (10-5, 45.6790) was in seventh place. The top-10 teams in the division qualify for post-season play.
In Eastern Class D, Fort Fairfield (12-1, 49.5098) was third; Washburn (9-4, 39.8057) was fifth; and Limestone-MSSM (2-13, 3.2680) was 16th. Like in Class B, only the top 10 squads make the playoffs.
The following is a recap of games played through Monday, Jan. 25.
Caribou 53, John Bapst 47 — At Caribou Saturday, Cam Anderson ripped off 18 points to lead the Vikings to a six-point win over John Bapst of Bangor. Matt Till chipped in 16 points and Chris Nadeau added 10 for Caribou. The Vikings have won eight of the last nine games.
Shane Hass paced John Bapst (1-14) with 18 points.
Washburn 56, Easton 45 — At Washburn Friday, the Beavers avenged an earlier season loss to the Bears with an 11-point victory. Connor Fitzpatrick led the Beavers with 18 points, while Mitch Worcester added 15 and Nick Bragg 11.
Holden Turner and Reid Clark had 13 points each for Easton.
Fort Fairfield 68, Wisdom 19 — At Fort Fairfield Thursday, Travis Noyes had 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists as the Tigers blasted Wisdom. Dereck Dufour chipped in 12 points for the Tigers, while Josh Booth and John McNamee each had 11.
Caribou 46, Hermon 41 — At Hermon Thursday, Ted Walker scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Vikings beat the Hawks. Chris Nadeau added 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for Caribou, while Till added 11 points.
Colton Gross led Hermon with 12 points, while Taylor Gross added 10.
Fort Fairfield 71, Van Buren 44 — At Fort Fairfield Tuesday, Jan. 19, Travis Noyes connected for a game-high 20 points as Fort Fairfield defeated Van Buren. John McNamee netted 18 points for the Tigers while Josh Booth added 10.
Derrick Rossignol led Van Buren with 19 points.
Fort Fairfield led 18-10, 37-18 and 55-33 at the quarter breaks.
GHCA 68, Washburn 62 — At Washburn Tuesday, Micah Wiley tossed in 22 points to power Greater Houlton Christian Academy by Washburn. Zach Straubel posted 14 points for the Eagles while Ethan Holmes scored 12.
Worcester scored 29 points to lead Washburn. Fitzpatrick tallied 13 points while McLaughlin added 11.
Washburn led 11-9 in the first quarter, but trailed 31-25 at halftime and 47-44 after three quarters.
