The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s and women’s basketball teams will be participating in the upcoming Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend, a collaborative initiative of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society.
This event will occur throughout the nation during the weekend of Jan. 29-31.
Participating UMPI coaches, Terry Cummings and Tracy Guerrette, will wear white sneakers instead of dress shoes with their usual game attire during the Owl home contest on Saturday, March 30 against the University of Maine at Machias to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society’s fight to save lives from cancer.
To show your support of Coaches Cummings and Guerrette’s effort in the fight against cancer, we invite you to wear your sneakers to the game too. Both visiting coaches from UM-Machias will also be participating in the effort and will sport their sneakers on the sideline.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of college and high school coaches across the country, Coaches vs. Cancer has been helping the American Cancer Society save lives since 1993.
It has helped people stay well by educating and empowering people to avoid cancer or find it early; helped people get well with free programs and services when they’re facing cancer; found cures by conducting and investing in research that yields groundbreaking discoveries into cancer’s causes and cures; and by fighting back by helping pass laws that fight cancer and keep our communities healthy.
